There will be exclusive bottles autographed by the Japanese Amouage Creative Director, Christopher Chong. I am putting high expectations on this one and actually Amouage has never disappointed me on any of their products; yes I am a big fan. The ceremony will start at 7 PM at Al Maha Lounge but I don't think I'll be going, however, I'll surely get my autographed bottle. =P

Just a side note, for those who don't know, perfumes are one of my big obsessions and I have like 20+ perfumes and most of them from Amouage xD. This has nothing to do with family related business but I literally find Amouage products fresh, exquisite, classy and prestigious.

Movie Teaser: Naruto Shippuuden Movie 3?

Nothing is really that much clear and I couldn't find any Movie Plot about it, but the teaser is officially published at Naruto 10th. I am not that much bothered to talk about what's this so-called JAMPro but it's basically a numerical computerized device that measures the torque applied when making up two threaded joints together and this thing is very important when installing casing, completion tubing and other type of pipes.

The good news is that I'm getting back to work with the Fishing & Re-entry Services department and now I'm going to emphasize on learning more about Whipstock systems and getting to understand procurement processes for each asset and inventory items for my department. In another word, I'm getting to have more tasks than before which is, as I find it, so fun especially that it makes me more busy and understanding both sides. (i.e management and operations.)

Other than that, it seems my 'new life' that I recently experienced didn't work fine, so everything came to an end and it has been broken; back to bachelors' club! :D

Oh, and I have to mention that a Pakistani old man dumped my car from the rear bumper and had to replace it by new one through his insurance agency accordingly. It was totally hectic till I get their approval to replace the new bumper and do all the process of replacement at the Mercedes Zawawi Workshop. Moreoever, it was another bad experience with Mercedes Zawawi with the inappropriate customer-service which they pretend it's at highest quality. The classes were a bit exhausting but I had fun, too. We were having theoretical and practical classes as back and forth, so that when you're in the practical, you'd see the theoretical part in action. What matters, is I've really understood and learned a lot about the tool I came to be trained to; OverDrive™ System. Later, I'll be, hopefully, going to another training for one of the lastest technologies in the oilfield; these are Drilling with Casing (DwC™), Drilling while Reaming (DwR™) and Drilling with Liners (DwL™).

Apart from the classes, the weekend before last weekend, my classmates and I went to Austin and it was just amazing trip. The night life in Austin is way too much better than in Houston, it's just vivacious and active. This is the famous Lady Bird Lake (aka: Town Lake)

Last weekend, three of my other Omani friends and myself went to NASA Johnson's Space Center Houston. I didn't really enjoy much but I loved the weather there and we cruised around Galveston for like 2 hours; such awesome seaside town. A photo from the NASA Space Center:

I never imagined in my whole life I'd be doing a crazy shopping one day, but guess what? I just did. :D I went to Galleria Mall and I shopped almost over $3000 (knowing the fact that I'm the least person on earth interested on shopping xD). I bought kids outfits for my nephew and nieces, D&G sunglasses, MontBlanc sunglasses, handbags from Gucci, 4 jeans and 5 shirts from AE and most importantly, L'Homme set from Yves Saint Laurent (YSL <3).
I will surely come back here again, since my company's headquarter is actually based in Houston. 4 Hours left to my flight, see you at the other part of the world guys.

Back to Houston

For two weeks training!

I miss this place already xD

The Vertical City: 1.5 miles tall?

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294373828889396642" style="DISPLAY: block; I think it is fair enough for his daily personal uses since he is a pediatrist (as consultant).

I have nothing to do till Monday afternoon and I'm literally bored watching animes, movies, chatting on MSN, shopping but not very bored with sleeping. *muhahahahahaha*

Snow in Houston?

This is really unusual to see snow in Houston, because it doesn't happen very often. I didn't really do anything much to mention in the first day except visiting a friend and staying at his place till midnight and that's it. I have been all watching movies, sleeping or maybe chit-chatting on MSN with friends. I don't have classes till Thursday, so you can imagine how bored I am till Thursday. Meanwhile, I'm downloading the second movie of Azumi; the first part was one of my all-the-time-favorite-movies. This is the trailer of the first part:

The one I'm downloading now is the second one: Azumi, Death or Love

This movie reminds me of one of my other all-the-time-favorite-movies, which is called Shinobi. I'm here for a training program in the Weatherford WTTC under the Fishing & Re-entry Services classes. I pretty much like it here and how systematic the life is, however, it can get nasty when there is a traffic jam which you really don't want to experience. People here drive very safely and in order, sadly unlike in Oman. No one honks you at the traffic lights, no one flashing you with full lights if you're driving slow, no one is interfering your business and so forth.

Through my interaction with Texans people, I noticed the majority of them are very racist and they can be super sarcastic even about other people from other States, although they're from their own country. I know it happens the same in my country but very minor! One of the most shocking thing that happpened here and freaked me out is a raping crime. A 40 years old black man who's infected with HIV raped an old white 69 years old man in front of his house at 8:00 AM in the morning and infected him with HIV, too! How could it be any less insecure? Is this racism? Insanity? What exactly? Such a real madness!

Anyways, I'm staying in the Crown Plaza and during the weekdays, I'm completely lonely and I do not go out since classes finish at 5 PM. However, in weekends or breaks, I do go to one of my SQU mates' place (who's here for two years working for OXY) and meet other Arabs in a coffee shop, a mall or a restaurant. It happened that we went to Dallas two weeks ago and to San Antonio last week. I had fun in Dallas but in San Antonio I didn't really enjoy because we went there during the Thanksgiving holidays and most shops and malls were closed. I did a lot of shopping in the BlackFriday they have which is basically crazy sales (up to 75%) for most of the designer wears and most of the people went into shopping madness.

I'm glad I made it here and made some friends from Lousiana, New Mexico, Mexico, Colombia and even some from Norway. I'm enjoying my classes and I'm planning to go back to Oman with full confidence to run some operations independently. I just feel like I need to spend some time more with dressing and undressing couple of complicated fishing tools and go out with experienced Fishing Supervisors and then, I'll definitely start running operations alone, thereafter.

The last two weeks!

It has been a while since I last updated. I have been busy a little bit for the last couple of weeks; Eid, photo-shooting, etc etc. As I mentioned in my previous post that I bought a DSLR camera [Canon EOS 450D] and I have been experimenting it and took some shots. Here are some of the shots that I would like to share:

One of the main reasons why I didn't update my blog in the last two week, is that I did eyes surgery for vision correction at Muscat Eye Laser Center right after Eid; namely the Lasek. It was totally hectic and painful in the first two days. I cannot describe the pain I went through but in the first two days my eyes were very itchy (and still till now but less) and whenever I blink my eyes, it's like I feel someone cutting my eyes with bare blades. Along with that, I've been advised not to get exposed to any kind of lights; not to use the laptop or watch TV and keep my eyes closed most of the time for a whole week. You can't imagine how hectic it could be, but literally, I felt like I was prisoned in my room forever.

This is how my eyes looked like in the third day. You can see the effect of tiredness

When doing Lasek surgery, in order to help healing your cornea, usually contact lenses will be placed on your eyes for a period of time. This period differs from a person to another, depending on how flat/soft your cornea is, however, in my case the lenses were placed for a week. A week later from the surgery, I went back to MELC to remove the lenses, despite the fact of their bad services, when the doctor was checking my eyes and going to remove the lenses, he removed the left lense a bit harshly and the consequence of that I got a small crack in the cornea which made me suffer another 3 days to get it fully healed. During these 3 days, my left eye was tearing all the time, even when I'm sleeping. I could have had sued the doctor for his aggressive way of removing the contact lense from my eye, but I was just being so patient and wanting to recover to my normal health ASAP. Notice the redness and the tiredness on my left eye in the picture below:

Thankfully (el7madellh), I am now feeling much more better and I must say that it was worth doing the surgery because now I see things more clearer and more 'WoW'. This is how my eyes look like now:

Just one more thing about MELC which I honstly didn't like. They have one of the worst customer service you could ever experience. If you call their Customer Service Line, no one will respond to you immediately and if you're lucky enough, they'll call you back in no less than an hour later. Notwithstanding, when they schedule you for an appointment and you arrive at the right time, you'll have to wait for another hour till it's your turn to see the doctor. Now for heaven's sake, what kind of a service is this??

Anyhow, immediately after I got my cornea fully healed I went to UAE visiting relatives in Abu Dhabi and shopping in Dubai. Nothing special to mention, but I feel like posting this picture below which I took when I had soms Krispy Kreme doughnuts. (Yes 3anooda, this is a show off :p )

Happy Eid + Happy Anniversary

Happy Eid: I truly wish all of you a very pleasant and joyful Eid, to you, your families and your beloved ones. It has yet to be stated at what point in continuity this movie will take place, but we do know it takes places in the post-timeskip Shippuuden time frame. The story line involves Sasuke and Naruto interacting in some fashion. It is unclear if the movie storyline will attempt to follow the manga continuity at all. Like the previous movies, movie 4 will probably exist in its own continuity, outside of the main storyline.

What's the story? At this point we don't have much to go on. Apparently Sasuke is the lead in this movie, however Naruto still plays some part in the story.

What do I think? Taking place in the post-timeskip time frame and involving Sasuke as the main character should help separate it from the previous movie entries. With Naruto playing a role in the story however, it's unlcear just how Sasuke focused the movie will be

Source

Trailer:

My Job.

Just wanted to say that I started working in one of the leading Oilfield Companies called Weatherford. The entries seem challenging and the voting is opened for registered members. You can register and vote for the best design in this thread (click here). My work is #1 in the poll list, named as Abdullah Al-Adawi (click here to see my design). I made that quickly but I hope I can get your vote.

Thanks!

UPDATE: I just wanted to clarify that I didn't ask anyone to vote for my work in particular. My above post is very clear stating to vote for the best design and at the end I kindly hope to have your vote, not to vote for my work compulsorily. I'm very irritated that some people think I am cheating by posting this thread on my blog or asking some forums' buddies to participate voting on that poll. I didn't ask anyone to vote for my design, I simply asked to vote for the best design because I don't don't give a damn about winning the prize, 'cause I'm not into iPod's anyway. All what I wanted is to have more people to vote on that poll, it worth having more people helping to vote and make the voting session more competitive between the three entries. P.S.: I asked the administration team whether or not if it's possible to ask other people to participate voting on that poll and the answer was positive; it's possible. Whoever think that I am trying to push people to vote for me, please cut the crap!

Thanks to every person who voted for my entry, I truly appreciate the time and considerations.

Lucky 13, June 2007

I guess, I succeeded to reduce using the Internet for the past few months and now I am working on a schedule to organize my Internet activities. I know I have been caring less about my blog (when was I that interested? :p) and that’s because I don’t have much to share, besides, I do not have much time for blogging in the first place.

Anyways, things have been unexpectedly awful almost this whole month; June2007. Starting from Gonu that hit Oman at the beginning of this month and the destruction it caused in different areas in the Sultanate, which I assume most of you are aware of. I was one of those philanthropist people who helped packing food and water into trucks for two days after gonu’s mess and in the third day I got a serious back-pain/fatigue which made me bedridden for two days and took me a whole week to recuperate. I felt like my whole spinal column wasn’t there, while I was a bedridden, I couldn’t even move my shoulders and standing up was something as like million knives hitting my back grisly. Yes! I didn’t go to the hospital because I knew it was a matter of time, because the pains only show up when I try to move and the massage thing was a good idea to reduce the pain.

In the 19th of June, a relative of mine died in a horrible car accident in Nizwa. He was stepping his vehicle along with his friend from the road (for god knows why) while a moronic reckless kid in the other side of the way was losing control of his car at a speed estimated above 170km/h smashed my relative and his friend and tore them apart and then died immediately. It was miserable tragedy as both of them were just in the beginning of their twenties but as a Muslim, I believe it was their destiny and no one will live eternally. Surprisingly, another relative in the same day delivered a baby girl in the same time of his death, Sub7an Allah!

In the same day, the 19th of June, I had a missed phone call from unknown number while I was in the funeral. I called back once I reached home and it was a call from MB Petroleum Company. They called to tell me that I will have a job interview the next day at 9AM and to be honest, I was shocked and I told the lady how stupid that you call someone to have an interview in less than 24 hours, but anyway she has nothing to do about it. I then tried to explain to her that I cannot come and do the interview because we have death situation and I asked her to postpone it till next week. The lady then panicked or whatsoever and told me that she’ll call me in few minutes whether my interview can be postponed or not. I waited for her call like 2 hours and she never called so I decided to take off to Muscat and see what these people have for me. Woke up pretty early that day, took shower, passed to a friend of mine and we went together there and we reached their building at like 8:30 in the morning. Just at the gate, I really had bad experience because the guard told us that no one told him that some university students have any interviews in that day, so in that order he didn’t want to let us in at the beginning, but eventually he did. You know, I have this theory that says “if you get bad service in the beginning then don’t expect to have a better one later on” and it works perfectly with me I guess. As we just arrived to the reception there was a dumbass lady who was acting as she's the president of the company and talking to us savagely. We explained to her that we received a call the day before to have an interview in that day but she was carelessly insisting that no interviews are scheduled in that day but then she tried hard to be nice and called some HR staff there. Through her conversation in the phone I could understand that there was denial of any interviews and I knew there would be something worse. The lady then called us and asked for our names and guess what? We spent like half an hour just telling her our names repeatedly because she were working hard to lead us to right person who'd make us the interview and the funny thing that she did ask us our names like 6 times and in the 7th time I wrote our names on a small paper and gave it to her, DUH!. Eventually, we went in to the HR Department and believe me you just don’t want to go there because it was a hassle to find the HR Department. At the end, we reached the guy which the recipient told us to meet, Mr. H. I so heard about how MP Petroleum Company is disreputable and I wasn't sure but in that day, I unequivocally believed everything I heard. As we first reached Mr. H's office, this guy didn’t show any greeting or a single smile on his face and he just checked our names and told us to wait in the conference hall next room. I was telling my friends about my theory and I can expect worse and worse but they were telling me to be patient. Imagine, we all stayed patient for two hours looking at each others, no one came to us or neither we knew what to do. I got completely irritated and so my friends, so we went to this guy, Mr. H, but he wasn’t there and we waited outside his office and few minutes later he showed up. We talked to him asking what’s going on and why they told us to have the interview at 9AM while more than 2 hours from that time we still didn't start the interviews. The guy silently replied asking us to wait for few more minutes till another guy called N who will take us to Production and Project Management Department for our interviews. Till Mr. N came, it took around another 20 minutes for us to stare at each others in the conference room. Once Mr. N arrived, he took us to the second floor in another conference room and told us to wait for 10 minutes till his boss come to interview us. I was almost woozy and so pissed off and I decided that I will be just sarcastic and picky in the interview because I believe on my theory and I won’t expect much from this company. Definitely these people are unpunctual and we wasted another one hour and a half staring at each others boringly waiting for nothing in nowhere. It was a big miracle how patient I was that day and I was just lenient till Mr. N came to us to deliver the bad news. The bad news that it was a mistake when they called us for the interview and they said that our degree is overqualified for the available positions they currently have. My friends and I got really pissed off for all the time we wasted because of them, regardless the inhospitality they showed us. I knew that my theory is just right and my friends believed it then. Worse of the worst, no one came to apologize of anything they did, not the Manager of the Production Department, neither any of the HR staff for this unforgivable mistake. Personally, I just wanted to blow up at any of those top mangers and tell them how disrespectful they are but I zipped my mouth out and went out peacefully deciding to never come back to this place, EVER!

After what happened I immediately decided to go to Nizwa since the 3aza was held there. When I reached almost Fanja, I was speeding in about 140km/h when I started hearing weird sounds from the front of my car and just within few seconds the engine blew up. El7amdellah, I managed to control and stop the car, otherwise I wouldn’t be here typing this post today. I stepped the car over from the highway and luckily in less than a minute my brother passed and saw my car and stopped. As I’m having a bad day, my brother doesn’t have any cable in his car neither there was any place in his Mercedes to place the cable and pull my car to the nearest garage. I made calls here and there and eventually a friend of mine came over and we pulled the car from Fanja till Nizwa and I’m sure you don’t want to experience a situation as bad as this.

Exactly a week later (last Tuesday), my cousin died suddenly while he was taking his breakfast and I think by this tragedy, I understood how June 2007 can be unforgettable month in my whole life. I believe that whatever happened there was/were a reason(s) and that it’s out from our hands because this is what Allah has predestined.

If there is something else I want to mention about June 2007, it's that I logged in to EnglishSabla and I was dumbfounded on how many posts I missed since my last visit. I believe Oman hasn't ever experienced such cyclone as this before, however, most of residents were less vigilant and completely not precautious even after official alarm from the Royal Oman Police (ROP). Anyway, when I first heard that Oman is possibly going to be hit by cyclone on Monday, my family and I decided to evacuate and we actually evacuated to Nizwa. Thankfully, and talking cylcone gonu aftereffects, Nizwa hasn't been damaged as serious as other places as I mentioned above. She's studying English Specialization (or it's called English Sepcialist??) and as you all know that I'm doing Industrial Engineering, so writing an essay for English Specialist student is not like doing that for an Engineering student. Surprisingly, I managed to do the essay the way she told me, and she was caring less and wanted to submit anything because she was busy preparing for her finals. The point is, she got the highest mark and best essay and I honestly, I was surprised myself, are they joking?? The english I used was simple and the whole eassy-structure is obviously not of an English Specialist student, but duh! :D Lucky her, she have a brother like me (e7m :p)

Here's the essay. Enjoy ;)

Dictionaries were used since many centuries and are still being used till now which implies the importance of dictionaries as a rich source for educational purposes. Noticeably throughout the years, dictionaries have been developed and improved and many new types of dictionaries have evolved since then like the bilingual dictionaries and trilingual dictionaries beside the monolingual dictionaries. This research aims to study one of these types, which is the bilingual dictionary and to indicate the comprehensiveness of its contents. Two bilingual dictionaries, "Al-Mawrid Al-Akbar" dictionary and "Al-Muhit Oxford Study Dictionary" will be compared to a monolingual dictionary "Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary" through extensive study of the entry of the word "cyber-" and the words derived from it. The study will try to look at the elements of the entry that include the phonological, semantic, morphological, syntactic and etymological information, and the contextual usage.

There is an obvious difference between the monolingual dictionary and the bilingual dictionary in the coverage of words. The head-words coverage by the monolingual dictionary extends far more than the other two bilingual dictionaries and this can be shown by looking at the extra words that the monolingual dictionary provides like the words cybercafé, cybernaut, cybersex and cybersquatting. However, by going through each bilingual dictionary, we find that "Al-Mawrid Al-Akbar" dictionary covers the words cybernation, cybernetic(s), cybernetician and cyberneticist, whereas "Al-Muhit Oxford Study Dictionary" only covers the three words cybernetics, cyberpunk and cyberspace. Moreover, "Al-Mawrid Al-Akbar" dictionary treats each of the words above as a head-word and not as words that should go under the head-word cybernated. It then lists the words cybern (ation), cybern (etics), cybern (etician) and cybern (eticist), which are nothing but morphological information of the same word 'cybernated'. Nevertheless, this may be due to the fact that word meaning can be more extensive when it is shown as a head-word and more elaborated information could be given.

The phonological information is an essential part that each dictionary should provide. Here, the monolingual dictionary illustrates two types of pronunciations which are the British and the American pronunciation. "Al-Mawrid Al-Akbar" dictionary demonstrates clear British pronunciation, whereas "Al-Muhit Oxford Study Dictionary" does not provide any phonological description except for the word 'cybernetics' by breaking it into three syllables using alphabetical letters not phonetic symbols.

The semantic of a dictionary is primarily the imperative aim and is a measure of power of any dictionary that gives a proper and concise meaning for each of its words. Each of the dictionaries used provides the semantic information for its words, but the bilingual dictionaries present unclear definitions and could not achieve a user friendly meaning. For example, the word 'cybernation' is defined like this:

"السبرنه: الضبط الاوتوماتي لعملية ما في حقل الصناعة مثلاً من طريق إستخدام الكومبيوترات"

The word "السبرنه" does not reflect any Arabic terminology that any reader can thoroughly understand. It may have been derived by direct phonological transfer of the word 'cybernation' and arabized to the word "السبرنه". Moreover, weak Arabic grammar is used like in "من طريق"; it should be grammatically structured as "عن طريق". Besides, "الاوتوماتي" and "الكومبيوترات" are not originally Arabic words and any good dictionary should provide clear meanings using well formulated standard Arabic. Another point, none of the words is provided with examples to illustrate its contextual meaning with clearer picture and that is why there is a lot of vagueness. Last but not least, the word 'cyberspace' has two senses in the bilingual dictionary, "Al-Muhit Oxford Study Dictionary", whereas it has just one sense in the monolingual dictionary. Subsequently, the senses of the word 'cyberspace' in the bilingual dictionary count for an extra credit towards the clarity of its meaning and make it more informative.

Syntactic information is needed by any user of the language in order to produce understandable utterances or any piece of writing and here each type of the dictionaries used provides this information, either the word is noun, verb or adjective. The monolingual dictionary even provides more information of either the word is countable or uncountable.

It is important for language user to know whether a word is formal, informal or slang in order to be able to use it appropriately, but the bilingual dictionaries used in this research do not provide any information about the usage and neither provides any etymological information. This can be explained by knowing that the words used in this study do not have definite origin or previous usage that can lead through to its etymological information.

In conclusion, by studying the two types of dictionaries, it has been found that the monolingual dictionary is more comprehensive than the bilingual dictionary in terms of the phonological and semantic information. However, the bilingual dictionary can also be useful for beginners and for those who are not frequent users of English and do not want to go into details about the language, especially it is easier to capture the meaning when it is provided in one's mother tongue.

Intellectual Property [ Revision ]

I'm having exams coming up and currently studying for a course called "Product Design and Development". The book we are using is 'Engineering Design 3rd edition by George E. Dieter' and I'm reading on chapter 15, Protecting Intellectual Property and Design Aspects of Product Liability:

*Protecting Intellectual Property (IP):

Within the context of product design and development, the term Intellectual Property refers to the legally protectable ideas, concepts, names, designs, and processes associated with a new product. Intellectual Property can be one of the most valuable assets of firms. Unlike physical property, IP cannot be secured with lock and key to prevent its unwanted transfer. Therefore, legal mechanism have been developed to provide an incentive and reward to those who create new useful inventions, while at the same time encouraging the dissemination of information for the long-run benefit of society.

The protection of intellectual property by legal means has become a topic of general interest and international diplomatic negotiation. There are two conflicting motivations for this; first, creations of the mind are becoming more valuable in the information age and second, modern information technology makes it easy to transfer and copy such information. The intellectual property is protected by patents, copy rights, trademarks, and trade secrets. These entities fall within the area of property law, and as such they can be sold or leased just like other forms of property.

The functional features of a design can be protected with utility patents. A utility patent protects not only the specific embodiments of the idea shown in the patent application but functional equivalents as well. A well-written patent is the best protection for valuable idea. If an idea is worth patenting, it is worth hiring an experienced patent attorney to do the job well.

A different type of patent, the design patent, covers the ornamental aspects of a product such as its shape, configuration, or surface decoration. Design patents are easier to obtain than utility patents, and they are easier to enforce in court. If a competitive design has essentially the same overall appearance, then it is in violation of your patent. A design patent can have only one claim, which is a serious disadvantage, because it means that every unique aspect of a product's design requires a separate patent. This can be expensive.

A copyright has only limited usefulness in protecting product designs. This form of intellectual property is primarily intended to protect writing; however, it has become the dominant method of protecting software.

Trademarks are used to protect the names or symbols (logo) of products. A related form of protection is known as trade dress. This consists of distinctive features of a product like its color, texture, size, or configuration. Trademark and trade dress are intended to protect the public about the source of a product, i.e., to protect against cheap "knock-offs." Trademark protection is achieved by actual use of the trademark in the marketplace such that it achieves market recognition. Obviously, it is easier to defend against a competing trademark if it is registered. A registered trademark is issued for 20 years and can be renewed every 20 years as long as the product remains in the marketplace.

An innovation becomes a trade secret when a company prefers to forgo legal protection for the intellectual property. The reason for doing this is often a feeling that patents are difficult or costly to defend in the particular area of technology, or an unwillingness to let the public know what the company is doing. If the company takes active steps to protect the trade secret, then the courts will protect it as a form of intellectual property. Process innovations are more often protected by trade secrets than product innovations. Companies sometimes require nondisclosure agreements of their employees and may attempt to legally prevent an employee who leaves their employ with sensitive trade knowledge from working for a competitor in order to protect a trade secret.

* Design Aspect of Product Liability

Court decisions on product liability coupled with consumer safety legislation have placed greater responsibility on the designer for product safety. The following aspects of the design process should be emphasized to minimize potential problems from product liability:

Take every precaution that there is strict adherence to industry and government standards. Conformance to standards does not relieve or protect the manufacturer from liability, but it certainly lessens the possibility of product defects.

All products should be thoroughly tested before being released for sale. An attempt should be made to identify the possible ways a product can become unsafe, and tests should be devised to evaluate those aspects of design. When failure modes are discovered, the design should be modified to remove the potential cause of failure.

The finest quality-control techniques available will not absolve the manufacturer of a product liability if, in fact, the product being marketed is defective. However, the strong emphasis on product liability has placed renewed emphasis on quality engineering as a way to limit the incidence of product liability.

Make a careful study of the system relations between your product and upstream and downstream components. You are required to know how malfunctions should warn users of any hazards of foreseeable misuses based on these system relationships.

Documentation of the design, testing, and quality activities can be very important. If there is a product recall, it is necessary to be able to pinpoint products by serial or lot number. If there is a product liability suit, the existence of good, complete records will help establish and atmosphere of competent behavior. Documentation is the single most important factor in winning or losing a product liability lawsuit.

The design of warning labels and user instruction manuals should be an integral part of the design process. The appropriate symbols, color, and size and the precise wording of the label must be developed after joint meetings of the engineering, legal, marketing and manufacturing staffs. Use international warning symbols.

Create a means of incorporating legal developments in product liability into the design decision process. It is particularly important to get legal advice from the product liability angle on new innovation and unfamiliar designs.

There should be a formal design review before product is released for production.

G6PD Deficient

We have a G6PD Deficient Carrier here!!

I knew it!!

Job Seeking

Probably, most of you know that I’m very busy with my school, since it’s my final year at SQU. Already, five weeks to go and I will be FREE and no more stuff like “Homework’s, Essays, Assignments, etc”. I’m not going to post about my experiences in the whole past years as a student; I will leave it to my next post. For now, I am going to talk about my ‘job-seeking’ phase.

It’s really a tiring and exhausting phase that I assume graduates only know about. It’s about your career, your future that should go along with your plans (if you have any lol). As an engineer, I must have a competitive and challenging position and definitely at a competitive and high class company. Why am I saying this? Because I believe that as a graduate we need more experience, more of practical real-life problems than those which we were studying, facing and solving at school analytically. Basically, big companies doubtlessly have those challenging positions that the type of person (like me) who likes to take that opportunity to improve his/her skills for better experiences and understanding of the workplace. I wouldn’t say that small companies don’t have challenging positions, but the more variety you have, the better chances that you can gain more experiences, am I right?

Finding an engineering challenging position, specifically for my discipline (Industrial Engineering), would be within those Oil and Gas Service and Supply Companies or Manufacturing and Management Companies. I have attended courses on how to apply for jobs, writing proper CV, application letter and preparation for interviews. Those courses were moderately helpful so far and I believe I have done a good CV and application letter.
Most likely, I will be done with school at the end of this May, exactly 28th of May, so for this sake, I started applying for jobs since the end of last February, because I just don’t want to stay at home doing nothing and all procrastinating and sleeping all the time. I’m ready even to work the next day after my final exam, yes I am that excited and motivated, and I just wanna start and see how engineering life does look like in action. But, in the same time, I first wanna know which company or organization I would be hired to, because till now no company responded to me except two, Weatherford and Schlumberger. The companies that I’ve already applied to are:

· Baker Hughes
· Chevron
· Daleel Petroleum
· Falcon Oilfield Services
· Halliburton

· Master Foods
· MB Petroleum Services
· Oman Cables
· Oman Gas Company
· Oman LNG
· Oman Refinery Company
· OXY Oman
· PETTE Oman Company
· Schlumberger
· Sohar Aluminium
· Sohar Refinery Company

· University of Florida (for Master's Degree)
· Weatherford

Almost, these are the companies that I applied for a job to, and guess what? No one responded except Weatherford (had first interview last Monday), and Schlumberger (No available position for me in the meanwhile). It’s really not easy phase, all waiting for a call or an email to know whether your application is accepted or not. It’s a desperate phase if I may say, some of the students in my department got responses from the same companies I applied to, and you know whenever I receive a call from new number, I got excited and I reply immediately but desperately and sadly, the call isn’t from any companies that I applied for. Some time, I get impatient and I wanna call each company and ask them why I didn’t get a response yet, but I thought it might give bad impressions about my personality that I am impatient person, so I think I will just move on and wait till that day I get a call for the position that is awaiting me. I wish it will be a position that would suit me as a person who like having challenging responsibilities, a person who has good leadership skills, analytical skills, communication skills and managerial skills, too!

Do you have any suggested company(ies) or organization(s) in your head that would suit a fresh Industrial Engineering graduate?

All kind of helps are so much appreciated ^_^

Thank you

Back!

They say, people get wiser when they grow up, do they?

Temporarily, the blog is back. I'm using Johnson Window Films GSN 30 for the back and side windows and 0% reflective in the windoscreen. What happened that yesterday it was cloudy and when it's cloudy, this film really makes my car look very dark inside and you barely can see through. I was going to SQU and there we have this gate before you get inside, and there, one of those freaky picky policemen stopped me and asked for my license and car registration and rudely and ridiculously signed me a fine because of my windows film without negotiating or anything.

ME: What's this?
Policeman: Please sir, sign here.
ME: What for? What's that? Excessive usage of windows film 30% + ? How comes?
Policeman: This is the rules and sorry I can't help you.
ME: I'm not asking for help, but my windows film is not more than 30% and it's a branded windows film.
Policeman: O.K, you don't want to sign here then please take it off from your car, NOW!
ME: WTF? where to sign please!

Seriously, I tried to explain to him that this windows film is licensed and that it looked more reflective just because of the weather and bla bla bla, but apparently that guy seemed so ignorant and merely uneducated!

Today again, I came the same terminal and the same thing happened but guess what this time? They give me a fine again, because my front window is filmed and seriously I can't believe that they even gave me a fine for that. I mean it's 0% for GOD'S SAKE, what's bothering them? I couldn't talk more with these people, they're literally ignorant and awain they told me windows film of any kind in the front window is strictly NOT ALLOWED! Yeah not allowed my ass!

~ This is stupid, I mean why windows film is not allowed on cars? I knew that something forthcoming this Eid, something bad and horrible. I'm not a pessimistic person but I had the feeling even before Eid started. It happened that I have been hospitalized for the first time in my whole life since I was born. I had some periumbulical abdominal pain, which was almost killing me like hell.

The first of Eid was fun as usual, went to our newest farm took the Lexus and kids with me for the 3iyood (yea in Nizwa we call it 3iyood). I know that I haven't eaten any meat in the first day, but I had some "Harees" and ate some "fustuq", too. Before I go to bed, I felt some slight pain in my stomach and I thought that will be gone tomorrow the other day when I wake up. Unexpectedly, I kept waking up at night sweating but without feeling any pain, and then when I fully woke up in the morning I felt a horrible pain that you cannot imagine. I woke up yelling from the pain, I felt like something eating my stomach and every part in my abdomen. I immediately went to the bathroom and whatever happened next I felt better. I, then, thought that the pain has gone and now I can go and eat some meat and so I did. When it was noon time, I felt the pain again but this time I was extremely sweltering and like the sun is 1 inch above. I was at my room and I couldn't call anyone, actually I couldn't even talk or scream and as the pain gradually goes I became to be able to go and take some pill from mum and drink some honey. I wasn't able to eat anything hence then because I was nauseated, fevered and almost subconscious. I tried to sleep but I couldn't till after Ma'3reeb prayer but then again the pain came and that time it was a strike. My brother immediately took me to the hospital and the fun starts here. In Nizwa we have polyclinic and main hospital (Nizwa Hospital). The polyclinic is closer to our house but my brother immediately took me to NH and once we arrived there, the recipient asked me where I am from and I was like 'duh! I'm from Nizwa' and he asked me which area in Nizwa and I told him Al3ain, and then he said sorry then you cannot see the Dr. here, go to the polyclinic first and if your condition is in emergency then they'll transfer you to here because this is the rules awain. I was like "WTF", and I told him ok I'm not from Nizwa I'm from Muscat, he then kept quiet and just said 'sorry'. I lost my temper and I became completely off. I mean, what the hell, I arrived to the hospital already, why should I go to the polyclinic anyway? Anyhwwz, I asked my brother to go to private clinic but sadly and weirdly all of them were closed and I was shocked, so I eventually went to this polyclinic and there another fun happened.

I arrived there around 9.30 PM and it was completely crowded and like bedlam. There was no hope I can see the Dr. because they close at 11 but what happened that I fainted and since then I can't remember anything till I woke up at home yesterday morning. I can't believe that I fainted, lol I never fainted before and what's amusing that when I became conscious I can't remember a thing. I can't believe that I have been injected, injection is my greatest fear besides scorpions. I have been injected like 6 times and I have been transferred to NH. Weird, I can't remember anything after I fainted but it was like in a nightmare and the only thing that I can remember is seeing my Mum and hearing the voice of a special person to me. My mum was with me all the time, fdaiteh ana, she was so worried about me, she thought that I might have the "dooda zaiday" and I might have an operation or something. She told me that I wasn't like someone who's sick, I was blurting stupid things, foul-mouthed especially when the nurse injected me, because I called her "you shit". LoL, I swear I don't remember because if I was really conscious I wouldn't let anyone to inject me, kill me and don't inject me, even I'm in about to die, albeit (*yuk*). I can't believe the stories that mum told me when I was in the hospital, I made fun of the Dr., I shut up some kids crying next bed, asking for TV, complaining about bad service and so on. I can't remember anything and I asked my brother (Consultant Pediatrician at MoDH) why I was acting insanely like that and he just said that's because of the fever that caused me subconsciousness. I wish there was a camera recorded me, lol I wanna see how I was looking :p. All what I care that I have been cherished by a special person, yes she my Mum and how much she was with me the whole time and cared about me. I love you Mum. ^_^

For now, al7amdellah I almost feel no pain and I don't think that I'm going to eat any junky food any soon, not even after two weeks. I rather eat some healthy food you know, fruits and fresh homemade food.

Anyway, this Eid Alfiter was another bad one, as just the last one when my 14 years old second cousin died in horrible car accident. This year, I became ill and guess what? I have exams, actually not only exams, quizzes, assignments, etc etc. But you know what? I don't care, I'll just do my best now and see how it goes.

I hope y'all enjoyed your Eid, inshallah elshar ma yjeekom :)

Eid Mubarak to you all :)

May Allah make all your days filled with happiness and joy and accept your deeds and fasting. The purpose that I made the lower part coming darker is to help me showing the details of the dragonfly; that's by the lighting in the background of the upper part my photo. Obviously, such photos need patience and concentration and it took me around 15 minutes to get this photo right with shutter speed of 1/403 sec. I hope you'll like it and comments are highly appreciated

Picture Details

Model: Canon DIGITAL IXUS 800 IS
Shutter Speed: 1/403 second
F Number: F/5.5
Focal Length: 23 mm
Date Picture Taken: Aug 17, 2006, 12:07:32 PM

I thought of changing my desktop since 3anooda 'thinks' it's kinda scary lol. I don't mean that for specific people in my life but to those who aren't close to me. I have been always kind and nice almost with everyone and everywhere. I have been always trying my best to interact with people less but in the same time making relation with them. Thankfully, I'm known to be the cheerful and crazy person, people told me that I have a unique smile and attitude. Yes I don't interact with people that much, but when they need me I welcome them with my both hands like I'm the closest person to them. I help as much as I can and I try my best not to bring anyone back, because I would feel guilty if I didn't help a person who asked me for a help. It's something more like inborn habit; I just can't help it myself helping others and be gracious as possible. I'm not the type of a person who would do something to get a 'thank you' on return, but I do it as ethically as religiously as I have been taught. My concern is seeing people happy and in peace; intrinsically that Allah would accept my work as good deeds and grant me his compassion, either on this life or at the Judgment Day.

Yet, all overall, you would find people who bears hatred for you, jealousy and malevolence. I don't bother myself with that because I know I can't satisfy every single individual I ever knew. But the worst part, being nice people who aren't close to you but they hates you or dislikes you. I don't interact with them that much and if I do, I'm with all innocence baring my kindness and being honest to everyone. What earnestly irritates me that I have been nice and kind to a person and the other day s/he completely ignores what I did for him/her. Some people would even backstabbing you and accuse you with something that you'd never ever done. This is unequivocally called hypocrisy and depreciation and such people are scum of the earth.

Lately, I've been trying to be a better Muslim referring to the fact that death is certain and we just don't know when we are going to die. I was thinking about those people who bear some enmity for me and I was like "Ok, let me be better than these people and go apologize to them about anything to just satisfy their pleasure so they could stop stalking and shitting about me". As much as I always wanted not to be hated but actually loved and respected from everyone, I thought of an idea that –for the long terms- purifies me from having enemies which is apologizing.

Apologizing and saying sorry to people, however, is definitely something righteous and ain't lame. At the beginning, I was very hesitant to go and talk to those people and say sorry, but I got my guts and did it. I went to apologize to many people that I thought that I wasn't that much nice with them or that I ever had a problem with them previously. The majority of them were very understanding and actually they were shocked why I came and apologized to them. For some reasons I thought I would sound as awkward as a loser just going to people and apologize to them after being all nice and kind before. Then, I believed that I did the right thing and I don't think I would regret what I did one day. I was better than them, yes I felt relived after apologizing knowing that I have no more enmity from people that I kept thinking they do have. The word "sorry" is verily like a magic word, it changed my relation with many people to a better one.

That wasn't enough for me, I have also an online identity and I do have relations with other online identities in different communities. What the heck, I went to apologize to many of them (either by E-mail or Forum PMs) and I was also happy that most of them were an understanding person. There were three identities that were exceptional. One has reluctantly replied me with very harsh and offensive words that is unexpected from a person like him that has good online reputation. I couldn't believe that he holds that much hatred for me and my artwork in this way but at the end I would say (if you gonna read this) Allah Ysam7ak!!

The other two identities completely ignored my PMs which were succinct why I came and apologized to them. These two are two best friends in real life and to date I don't know why on earth they didn't reply me, whatsoever. As I said, apologizing to people isn't something shameful you do or it's for losers. Frankly, I don't know why they ignored it as a month or so have passed already, although they practice their online activities daily. Sub7an Allah, what do they think? Is it because someone came and apologized to them that they now want to ignorantly being arrogant? I was thinking why they're doing this. I think they just want to make me feel lower than them and be like a loser. Well, lol obviously I'm not a loser and what I did was perfectly the right thing. It's not shame to apologize and gaining reation with people but the real shame is that you don't respond to the people who're trying to be nice with you. It's shame when someone sends you an email or a PM and you don't reply. Myself, I would feel as ignorant as clumsy person if I ignore any person, no matter what. If I'm in their case, the least thing I can do is replying back with anything but not to be rude and arrogant ignoring messages. It's either these two identities felt that I was better than them coming to apologize first. Or else, they don't have morals and respect and their thinking is merely like animals, although animals would feel sorry for them because their reaction is a pathetic excuse to the human being!

Last but not least, to you readers, if you think that I ever misbehaved, mistreated or wasn't that nice to you, I'M VERY SORRY!

I was bored and thought of practicing Adobe Illustrator CS2 more, so I decided to vector cloud's pendant which you all know ;)

Time spent: approx. 2.5 hrs

and here's little gradient effect:

Comments and feedbacks are highly appreciated. This, for one, has frightened every person in Nizwa, cos in Nizwa you barely hear such incident. I myself got really shocked especially knowing that the murderer is an educated person. Graduated from Sultan School, Master in UK and Ph.D in USA and was working in PDO. I will tell you the scenario that's spread all over Nizwa.

The kid (K) used to date the murderer's housemaid at his house. The murderer noticed the kid housebreaking into his house but he couldn't catch him in the first time. The murderer knew that the kid was dating his housemaid, so he made up a conspiracy with the housemaid and his younger brother to entrap the kid. The night of murder, the kid came over as the maid told him the place is vacant and once he's in, the two (the murderer and his younger brother) ambushed and caught him up. At first the kid tried to compromise but the murderer mercilessly shoot him 3 times in the chest while he was fleeing. The kid turned out to be the murderer's neighbor youngest brother but this is not the end yet. The murderer then called his neighbor telling him that he shoots his brother and asked him to take him out from his house. The victim's poor older brother came and asked the murderer to help him to take him to the hospital but he rudely refused and asked him if he didn't take his brother quickly he'll shoot him too (how blunt?). The kid sorrowfully died after few hours and offenders got caught immediately and confessed about everything.

Now, for god's sake, the kid got killed just because of a housemaid? If you were in the murderer's position what will you do? Do you think he did the right thing? Keeping in mind that the person is not ignoramus but almost got the best education. Who's fault that the kid was dating the housemaid? Don't you think that the murderer has so many alternatives, instead of just kill a 17 years old kid because he was just dating his housemaid?

I personally think that the murderer did perfectly a big mistake. There were so many alternatives he could have had done. One that he can simply call the police and tell them everything without killing and such which is more logic and legitimate. Or firethe housemaid, tell his neighbor that his 17 years old brother is dating his housemaid and should do something about it. I mean there are many other alternatives and the worst (if that's the case) could be giving him piece of his mind to learn the good lesson.

This drastic murder is really frightening since Oman, in Nizwa especially, we don't hear such murders (do we?) I bare my condolence to this kid family and I hope offenders will get the best punishments. I also hope that other families should learn something from this murder, either for their kids and/or carefully from their housemaids.

I'm still shocked hearing this murder happened in Nizwa :(

I think I need to make a good use of my blog for my visitors. Here's something to make y'all get busy with me here. I present t, my first ImageReady Basic Tutorial that I submitted to the famous forum, OMAN3D. I will be going easy on you and I hope you will fully understand each step.

Here's something expected from you to outcome from this tutorial.

First make your pizza next to you and get started by then,

1- When you have your desired design done one Photoshop, go to the Tools bar and click on Edit in ImageReady (or click Shift+Ctrl+M)

2-Now you have a similar interface as the one for Photoshop. The Animation bar should appear by default, if not press F11 or simply go to Windows and tick on Animation.

3- Select your desired layer(s). For the sake of this tutorial, I chose the Text layer.

4-Go to the animation bar and duplicate the current frame. Then, go to the Text layer and change the Opacity to 80%.

5-Keep repeating step 4 but with different descending numbers (by 20% in each layer in this tutorial). Once you reach 20% Opacity, make the next frame's Text layer to be 10% instead of 0%. After that, use ascending numbers and stop at 80%. ( because the Text layer in frame 1 is 100%)

6-Now you're almost done and you can play your Animation.

7-If you're not happy with the animation frame time you can always change each frame's timing by clicking under the frame display layer. In my final image, I made the delay on each frame to 0.1 second.

8-Save your animation by going to File, Save Optimized As ( Shift+Ctrl+Alt+S) and choose your destination to save. Make sure that the format is of type GIF.

End of the Tutorial.

-------------------------------------------

Please if there is anything that is not clear, then point it out. P.S: show me your work please :D

Enjoy ^_^

Wahoo!!
I've finally made it!! Yes, my new blog design. This is my very first attempt on web designing and to be honest, I faced some problems on using Frontpage, 'cause it has been long time since I last used it. I needed to reacquaint, however, frontpage isn't that tough software to learn and use anyway. I almost spent 7 hours on the whole thing(designing the layout and working on frontpage), designing the layout, however, wasn't hard but the tags and variables of blogger was the thing. I want to thank Conceptoo for his help and without him I wouldn't get the trick of keeping the ratio of each cell the way I wanted it.

You, out there, what do you think of my new blog design? ;)
